EBO bats for PNU Foundation, appeals for alumni support
(re-published from the PNU Website http://www.pnu.edu.ph/news.php?news_id=156)
President Ester B. Ogena appealed to the alumni for support to establish the planned PNU Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization which she envisions to serve as fundraiser for the university as the National Center for Teacher Education. The occasion was during the Grand Alumni Homecoming held at the PNU quadrangle on May 1.
Dr. Ogena, who was the guest speaker at the alumni homecoming, cited the experience of the University of the Philippines and its alumni who were able to construct an edifice in Diliman and finance some programs of the UP system. She appealed to the alumni to emulate the example of UP as she introduced the concept of forming the PNU Foundation through which funds may be channelled by alumni members and chapters from different parts of the world.
Copies of the brochure for the Foundation and the identified projects to be financed through the PNU Fund Campaign were distributed to the audience composed of alumni guests and jubillarians. Accordingly, the PNU Foundation Fund Campaign endeavours to raise the one-million-peso fund for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration.
Moreover, the PNU Foundation Inc. envisions as a “responsible repository” and the source of funding for the university in realizing its goal of creating financial sustainability and harnessing its human resource and physical facilities to advance scholarship in teaching and research.
Specifically, the PNU Foundation is envisioned to cover scholarship grants, professorial chairs, faculty development grants, research grants, physical facilities grants, and other capacity building efforts.
In addition, the PNU Fund Campaign also identified four individual projects for the PNU infrastructure and facilities improvement. Project 1 is called State-of-the-Art Classrooms which pertains to classroom renovation, including wall refurbishing, sound proofing, window treatment, repainting, professor workstation, and media and technology facilities. Project 2 is the Construction of PNU Speech Laboratory to be used in Language Proficiency courses. Project 3 is Refurbishment of Science laboratories which will be equipped with movable tables and ergonomic chairs, whiteboards and seamless flooring, eyewashes and emergency shower, new microscopes and anatomical models, software interface and sensors, Liquid Crystal Display or Digital Light Processing and slide projectors, desktop computers and WiFi technology. Project 4 is Updating Library Collections by purchasing new print and non-print materials, online journal subscriptions, other modern facilities and equipment.
